IN response to last week’s article ‘Sleepwalking into HS2 Nightmare’.

Campaign group Mid Cheshire Against HS2 proffers never-truer words.

We are on the brink of seeing our Cheshire countryside damaged beyond belief.

HS2 would cut a swathe through Cheshire and split into two lines at High Legh, causing misery and disruption for years in its construction and then leave a legacy of lost habitat and agitation.

If that was not bad enough, this Government wants to further industrialise our countryside by promoting fracking, which would require hundreds of well sites and infrastructure.

We are already experiencing extreme weather events due to manmade climate change.

A nightmare indeed.

It is no good sitting with our arms folded shaking our heads. If people are going to wake up and stop this madness, it needs to be now.

People need to act, get involved.

Do something. Write to your MP and demand change. Vote for change.

Our railways are in chaos, our local services are being cut. If ever there was a time to halt spending, what will no doubt end up over 80 billion pounds on HS2, then that time is now.

Next year the HS2 Hybrid Bill Phase 2B will start to go through Parliament, in four years the road re-alignments could begin.

But there is hope. Even Michael Gove is said to be floating the idea of scrapping HS2 due to its unpopularity.
