I do wish that when local politicians write to a local paper on a topic of our interest that they would concentrate on the topic.

Instead of which they use half of such a letter as a marketing mechanism for their own party, slagging off the other parties .

We have enough of that puerile approach from the swamp at Westminster.

Last week we yet again have two such councillors, Paul Dolan and Sam Naylor purporting to be against car parking charges in Northwich and slagging off another party in CWAC eight years ago for proposing the introduction of charges.

Now CWAC is under the control of the party of messrs Dolan and Naylor. Yet CWAC still wants to introduce car parking charges in Northwich.

As we look at the letter in more detail it turns out that our councillors are not against car parking charges after all. They simply want to delay the introduction until the majority of the business properties on Barons Quay have been rented.

In other words they want to market the rentals to businesses on the basis that there are no car parking charges in Northwich.

If there is a quicker way to turn our small market town into a ghost town I’ve yet to hear of it.

So councillors if, as you claim, you want the best outcome for Northwich then car parking charges should be a total no.

As I understand it the land of Northwich was gifted to the citizens and covenanted in perpetuity that citizens should be able to use the land without charge.

So instead of crocodile tears and hand wringing perhaps this is the way to stop the implementation of parking charges.
