COUNCILLOR Naylor states that the council’s ability to find tenants for Baron Quay ‘may have been influenced by Brexit’.

Does he have evidence of this or is it unsupported speculation reflecting his own views?

The instability he refers to is caused by people, as with the General Election, refusing to accept the majority vote and led by Messrs Cable and Clegg attempting to undermine the majority.

No doubt it will be many years before it can be said definitely whether or not Brexit was a success, but positive indicators like Mercedes multi-million investment announced this week seem to be ignored.

Cllr Naylor refers to the cautious nature of financial directors. It is unfortunate that the council did not have the same business acumen.

I am sure most Northwich residents assumed that before committing to spending £80 million, the council would have Memorandum of Agreements from a minimum number of new businesses committed to take space.

The council has overseen the decline of the Northwich shopping centre, the abandonment of Weaver Square, the creation of the green carbuncle, the unwanted one-way system (just wait until the town bridges need repair) and they have now created a new empty development.

The only response from some councillors is ‘blame Brexit’ and introduce parking fees. I am sure that both are most unhelpful when trying to attract new businesses.
