I NOTE from a cursory look at the published tables that Middlewich has the highest Council Tax precept in Cheshire East in 2017/18. Though I appreciate the events that the town council put on, I do wonder whether its members’ enthusiasm for them is slightly over the top.
Austerity can only worsen with the recent budget and our economic woes following on from Brexit.
Having a rich heritage means that historic times are deserving of events along with other popular ones such as our FAB, car and bike and Oscar festivals.
Perhaps it should examine these and if they are cost neutral or close, see if expenditure can be easily reduced in other ways. I am not proud of living in the town with the highest council precept in Cheshire East.
