THE costs of HS2 - £55 billion!
Huge loss of greenbelt land, demolition of homes, destruction of countryside, destruction of leisure -walking, birdwatching, fishing etc, a mess during construction and disruption to roads; far outweighs the advantages - jobs, relief of existing line.
Our government will be remembered for the huge loss of green belt land all over England.
As overseas populations increase they will have less food to export and we will need all our fields.
They are our Amazon rainforest.
Why build large homes on green belt?
We could build rows of terraced cottages by existing roads, which, if suitable for retirement, would free up many homes.
With control of how many homes a landlord can let through taxation, first-time buyers could enter the market.
As a Conservative I am ashamed that our government does not listen to anyone or to common sense.
The HS2 will be built, but will only be used by people if it is cheaper than the West Coast line ie runs at a loss.
