IT HAS incensed me when I heard of the local authority proposal to look at charging for parking vehicles in Northwich.

It is totally stupid and unrealistic to creating charges when they will require the general public to come to the new £80 million development to spend their money.

Parking charges have never been applied in the town in all my lifetime (I am 80 years old), so why start now?

It can only result in alienating the traders who might be enticed to occupy the new shopping centre, who would surely take into account the possible lower footfall if charges were made.

One assumes that the new development was agreed to, to help the town grow out of the seedy past it has developed into in the main street - so why jeopardise it with the stupid idea of charging people to come in to Northwich?

It seems to me that some greedy councillor has seen that income could be made from visitors to the “new” town - but not seeing that they might not turn up if they have to pay for the privilege.

One could very easily cancel each other out, and leave us with no one to bring business to the new shopping centre - this might then ultimately become the seedier part of town if the shopping area is not occupied.
