WITH regard to a lorry hitting the bridge on Castle, Guardian December 3, the last time it happened I suggested an answer that I saw in France on several roads leading to low bridges.
They simply suspend several rubber flaps about two feet wide over the road on an extended arm connected to a post at a height that lorries will hit if they are too tall for the approaching bridge.
The driver hears the smack and probably feels it and realises he cannot get under the bridge and so stops and finds another route.
These flaps are set at a point that allows the lorry to leave the road he is on and join another to either turn round or continue on his journey though by a different route.
Forget Sat Navs, the simple solution is invariably the best.
