RESPONDING to your correspondent ‘Campaign for an HS2 Rail Stop’, I am sure that your readers have been delighted to hear of another brilliant way of burning our cash from the EU.

While campaigning for a station in Lostock, your correspondent has not given much thought to the massive disruption, the HS2 line construction is going to cause, without any additional proposals. Anyone travelling to and from the Manchester direction is going to experience years of total disruption, dodging round temporary lights, and standing in yet more queues on mud sodden roads.

If HS2 is the answer – what was the question?

One wonders why the Government is already spending vast amounts of money on preliminary work when there has been no demand (we have had trains that can run at 160mph, since the 1990s), when there has been no consultation, no commitment in any of the political party manifestos, and when we cannot even afford to repair the endless potholes in the roads.

For the Coalition to pretend that they are promoting the new Green Agenda, when they will be destroying 21 ancient woodland, along with much precious 161 natural habitats, while wrecking quiet village communities for a service which we are not asking for, nor want to spend our precious resources on, is nonsense.

You would think that Cheshire West & Chester Council, and our MPs, would be crying ‘stop’, but no, this is one of the very few local authorities on the 200 mile stretch, who think HS2 is a good idea.
