TERRY Murphy wants his players to perform better as they continue their mixed start to the season.

Goals from Jonny Edwards and Steve Warburton saw Town clinch a 2-0 win over neighbours Barnton on Wednesday.

But Town crashed to a 1-0 defeat to Curzon Ashton Reserves on Saturday, a performance that Murphy described as being “awful”.

“We had a lot of chances against Barnton and it was a good result, but we could have battered them by five or six”, he said.

“But on Saturday we were awful, very poor, but they weren’t much better. They had one shot at goal and they scored from it but other than that it was a poor game.

“I wasn’t very happy, in fact I’m still not. I don’t mind if we have a go and get beat but we didn’t even do that.

“My back four did quite well and Craig Stevens in midfield but the rest were poor.

“We had one shot on goal all match which just isn’t like us. They had one or two first teamers playing but normally they shouldn’t have been able to live with us.

“It’s about effort, teamwork and camaraderie and we didn’t have that on Saturday, which was disappointing.”

Town face newly-promoted Club AZ tonight, Wednesday, before travelling to Garswood United on Saturday and Murphy is expecting a response.

“It’s how we perform and if we do we will beat anyone but if we perform how we did on Saturday then we will finish in mid table.

“We’ve got to play to our full potential.”
