MIDDLEWICH Town’s month ended on a high.

Terry Murphy set his team a target of five wins for the month but this week said four would do just fine after wins on the road at Club AZ and Garswood.

“I’d have signed up for that,” he admitted on Monday.

“We didn’t deserve anything when we lost against Curzon so to win all the other games in what has been a very busy period is a good return.”

Iain Stanton’s drive from distance and an own goal accounted for Cheshire League Division One newcomers Club, a team that Murphy feels may surprise Town’s rivals this term.

There were no such worries at Garswood on Saturday, when Steve Warburton’s treble and a goal from Ryan Broadhead saw off disappointing hosts.

“We were comfortable in both games,” added Murphy.

“I was looking for answers after the awful performance last weekend and I certainly got that from the players.

“To be honest it could have been double figures against Garswood - they were nowhere near as good as they were last season.”

Sterner tests lie ahead for Town, starting this weekend when they host Rylands/Crosfields at Seddon Street.

Murphy will welcome back Shaun Came, Mike Brandon and Gary Bryning – all missing at the weekend – to his starting line up although keeper Matt Conkie (unavailable) and Steve Capper (banned) won’t feature.

Murphy plans to borrow Winsford United’s back up netminder Chris Rowley to cover his custodian’s absence.

“Crosfields will give us problems,” said Murphy.

“It’s a massive game for us as they have started well and it’s a chance to strike an early blow against them in the title race.”

Kick off 3pm.
