1874 NORTHWICH were left cursing the weather on Saturday after their FA Vase encounter with Tow Law Town was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The Northern League side had travelled to Cheshire on Friday and stayed overnight, a trip they will now likely have to repeat in midweek.

A date for the rearranged fixture has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile Northwich Victoria extended a winning sequence to five matches in the North West Counties League top-flight when they beat visitors Barnoldswick Town at Barnton.

Oscar Durnin’s opener established an interval advantage for Steve Wilkes’ men, one they doubled when Brian Matthews scored his 16th goal of the season with 20 minutes left.

Barlick replied through Harry Thompson, but their hopes of pinching a point were dashed by Jay Hart.

Barnton have not won any of their 17 Premier Division matches to date this term after succumbing to in-form Padiham.

Captain Chris Smith scored twice, but it was not enough to prevent a 5-3 defeat.

Elsewhere, Middlewich Town eased to the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup quarter-finals after putting six goals without reply past lower-ranked Witton Albion reserves.

Sam Wakefield scored four times at Moss Farm.

There was a knockout success too for Over 3 Grange, who surprised neighbours Winsford Saxons in the Crewe FA Junior Shield.

Ben Palfreyman, Joe Standish and substitute Jamie Cain scored for the visitors in a 3-1 win that secures for their side a semi-finals spot.
