Middlewich Town 3 Grappenhall Sports 1
MIDDLEWICH climbed into the top six in Cheshire League One on Saturday after recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
The hosts opened the scoring after four minutes when Chris Lunn supplied Mike Brandon, and he chipped the visitors’ goalkeeper.
But Grappenhall drew level shortly afterwards from a penalty.
Town restored their lead before the break when Joe O’Sullivan’s corner was hooked in by Carl Wade, and substitute Matthew Jamieson added a third late on.
Meanwhile Town's second string picked up a first point of the campaign in Cheshire Reserve League One after sharing six goals with their Rylands counterparts.
Sam Stockley poked home following a goalmouth scramble, only for Rylands to level before the break and then take a two-goal lead with strikes from corners.
A Witches recovery started with five minutes left when substitute Matty Wakefield netted following good work from Elliot Goryl.
Wakefield’s persistence paid when he deflected an attempted clearance past Rylands’ goalkeeper.
