THE attitude of Middlewich Town’s players after suffering a setback has impressed co-manager Ross Speight.

He told the Guardian that a response to a disappointing loss at Egerton had told him plenty about the Witches, who recovered to beat Congleton Vale last weekend.

“I’ve been critical of one or two for how they handled situations that proved costly,” he said.

“But those lads have taken that on board and then improved.

“They’ve stuck together and been honest with themselves when things haven’t gone according to plan.”

Middlewich have won five of their first nine games after being promoted to the Cheshire League’s Premier Division at the end of last season.

It leaves them fourth in the table ahead of a visit from Greenalls on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

The Warrington-based outfit have travelled well so far, collecting maximum points on three of their four away days.

Speight said: “I don’t want the lads to be wary of them.

“What is more important is we start the game like we did [against Congleton] last Saturday.

“If we do, I back us to beat anybody at this level.”

Town welcome back Charles Masters and Dan Clawson after they missed last weekend’s game, while new recruit Dave Griffin is available too.

Striker Sam Wakefield impressed during a cameo as a substitute in a 4-2 victory against Congleton, and is in contention to play for longer on Saturday.

Middlewich’s reserves play the return against their Greenalls counterparts at the same time.
