OAKMERE’S seconds got their hands on the Cheshire League’s T20 Cup for the first time following a successful run-chase in last Sunday’s final.

Needing 93 to beat Division A rivals Port Sunlight, they made it to their target with more than two overs to spare at Heaton Mersey.

Jameel Kara (33) and James Hodkinson (22) added 60 runs for the third wicket after coming together at 25-2, dashing their opponents’ hopes.

They wobbled when the latter’s departure saw three wickets fall and only two runs added before skipper Mike Dodd and Gaurav Kumar saw them over the line at 94-5.

SCORECARD: Port Sunlight 92-8 Oakmere 94-5

Port Sunlight put 92-8 on the board earlier after being put in, and an early breakthrough by veteran seamer Michael Cushion (3-15) had them on the back-foot at 37-4.

Guy Groves (1-25) took the other wicket during what proved to be an important spell.

Oakmere’s pressure forced batsmen into mistakes, and three were run out attempting to boost the total.

James Hodkinson (1-21) was the other bowler to claim a wicket while Kumar (0-11) and David Norton (0-16) were both economical in their four-over stints.
