ROSS Speight has said the strength in Middlewich Town’s squad helped them to end a five-match sequence without a victory.
The Witches came from behind to beat Daten in Cheshire League One last week, prompting their co-manager to target maximum points from their remaining matches.
They visit Mersey Valley tonight, Thursday, before completing the campaign at home to Halebank on Saturday.
If they win both games, they could finish eighth.
“It’s important we finish on a positive note,” said Speight.
“We were low on numbers before heading to Daten, but drafted in a couple of lads from our reserves and they did a great job.”
It was the response Town’s management team had wanted to see following the disappointment of losing to Rudheath Social after extra time in the Mid-Cheshire District FA Challenge Cup final.
Daten 1-2 Middlewich Town
MICHAEL Whitehead’s goal with 11 minutes left secured for Middlewich a deserved victory in Warrington.
His composed finish completed a comeback prompted by Christian Lawlor punishing a defensive error to put the home team in front shortly after the interval.
The Witches had made changes during the break, and Ollie Tobin and Whitehead both made the hosts’ goalkeeper work before they drew level.
Jamie Garner’s equaliser was expertly-taken, returning a cleared corner over the head of Daten’s stranded number one.
Speight said: “We were upset after the final, so to pick up a win while performing well was really pleasing.”
