STUART Doyle put behind him an injury-hit winter season to take second spot in his age category during the Waters Wilmslow Half Marathon on Sunday.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club chairman, who lives in Middlewich, reached the finish in 1:14.17 to classify 22nd overall and runner-up to Robert Affleck (Preston Harriers) in the men’s over 45s category.

It was an afternoon to remember too for James Ainsworth, who reduced his personal best by more than two minutes after stopping the clock in 1:18.40.

He passed a number of rivals that had started too swiftly, ranking him eighth in the men’s over 40s class.

Darren Cottier (1:24.54) and newcomer Jenny Watt (1:29.14), who was 12th female to finish despite a fall, followed them across the line.

Jayne Lomax (1:53.45), Sarah Gibbs (2:02.12) and Sarah Walker (2:11.54) completed the club’s seven-strong contingent.
