ROSS Speight says sharper shooting has helped Middlewich Town record results that their improved performances in recent weeks have deserved.

The Witches increased their goals tally to 10 in the past two outings with a 6-1 comprehensive victory at home to Cheadle’s reserves on Saturday.

It marks the first time this season they have won back-to-back matches in Cheshire League One.

“The biggest difference has been our accuracy in front of goal early on in games,” said the co-manager.

“That has helped us to settle down.”

Along with co-manager John O’Sullivan, he challenged Town’s players to finish the job at the weekend after goals from George Hopkins and Callum Priestley established an interval lead.

They obliged, Hopkins going on to complete a hat-trick while substitute Sam Wakefield bagged a late brace.

Speight said: “It was another dominant display, and I felt we controlled the game from the first whistle.

“We played well in the first half, but we wanted the lads to kill off the game as quickly as possible after half time.”

“They did that in style in the end.”

Michael Price netted a consolation for the visitors, who had Andrew Lindon sent off on a day to forget.

Middlewich, after rising to 10th in the table, head to Halebank next.

“We just need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we maintain the high standards we’ve set,” added Speight.

Matthew Cann scored an equaliser for Town’s reserves in a 1-1 draw against Wythenshawe Town’s development side the same day.
