ROSS Speight has challenged Middlewich Town’s players to put together an unbeaten sequence after they brushed aside Golborne on Saturday.

It marked only a third win of the campaign in Cheshire League One for the Witches, but their co-manager is hopeful the 4-1 win can be a catalyst for an improved run of results.

“A score-line like that has been coming – it didn’t surprise me,” he said.

“We’ve brought in some new lads, while one or two familiar faces have returned, and it’s paid off.

“I’d argue we’ve been playing well for a while now, but not getting the results our performances have probably deserved.”

Callum Priestley, who returned to the side last month following an injury, was on target twice for Middlewich at the weekend.

An owl goal, plus a strike from Ed Marsh, meant Jamie Bradshaw’s reply for the visitors was a consolation.

Meanwhile teenage goalkeeper Aaron Woolwich impressed on his first-team debut.

It leaves Town 12th in the standings ahead of a visit from struggling Cheadle reserves this Saturday, kick off 2pm.

Speight added: “The lads have been buzzing in training, and in our WhatsApp group – the team spirit is there now.

“We’ve stuck to our guns as a management team, and had to be incredibly patient at times, but it’s been worth it.

“The challenge now is to be more consistent on the field.”

Substitute Jack Lyons scored a consolation for Town’s reserves in an 8-1 reverse away to their AFC Macclesfield counterparts in the Cheshire League on Saturday.

They visit Wythenshawe this weekend.
