SUBSTITUTE Oliver Tobin completed a debut to remember when he scored a stoppage time leveller for Middlewich Town on Saturday.

He lifted a neat finish over Tom Darbyshire, Golborne’s goalkeeper, in the fourth minute of added time to secure for his side a share of the spoils.

As they had done during a 3-2 defeat at home to Mersey Valley in midweek, the Witches had to fight back after going 2-0 down.

They had looked more likely to take the lead during the early exchanges, when Dean Burgess’ effort was deflected to safety by a defender and Darbyshire saved smartly from Sam Wakefield’s volley.

The home team responded, and took the lead after half an hour when a cross from the left was steered in at the far post.

A second goal arrived five minutes before the interval, this time from a rebound after Middlewich custodian Charles Masters had parried an initial effort.

Town improved in the second period, which started with Adam Morris testing Darbyshire direct from a free kick.

They were then gifted an opportunity to reduce their arrears when Lewis Morana was tripped inside the penalty area, only for Ed Marsh to send the resulting spot kick over the bar.

Morana then teed up Wakefield, but he failed to hit the target.

The visitors could be forgiven for thinking it was not to be their day when Morana’s effort from a narrow angle also flashed wide.

They did find the net on 78 minutes Wakefield drilled low out of Darbyshire’s reach from another Morana assist after Morris and Chris Lunn had combined on the left.

Marsh then called Golborne’s number one into action with an attempt from the edge of the penalty area before replacement Tobin turned hero with his last-gasp contribution.
