AMELIA Pettitt marked her birthday by being the first female to finish the Christleton 5K on Friday.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club star, who turns 21 today, improved her personal best for the distance too – crossing the line in 16.44.

Teammate Matthew Sheen was in fine form too, classifying sixth overall in 15.14.

That was fast enough to earn him under 20s men’s category honours.

Stuart Doyle ranked second in the over 45s men’s age group, just outside the top 30 overall, after timing 16.05.

A total of 36 Vale Royal members took part in the race, many recording lifetime bests on a fast course.

Helen Smith (over 45 women) and Chloe Dooley (under 20s women) were runners-up in their category, while Helen Whitby (over 35s women), James Edwards (over 55s men) and Lucy Burch (under 20s women) were third.

At the front of a 400-strong field, Matthew Clowes was a comfortable victor in 14.25 ahead of Andrew Davies (Welsh Anglo) and Joseph Vis (Sale Harriers).
