MIDDLEWICH racers were out in force at Oulton Park for the Classic Sports Car Club’s Championship racing.
Chris Thompson, in a 3 litre Ford Capri, joined 18 other starters in the ‘Swinging Sixties’ race for cars manufactured in the 1960’s and early 70’s.
After a good start, he was gaining a place every few laps and finished in seventh place overall (third in his class), just behind a 5.7 litre Ford Mustang!
Ernie Hammond and Jonathan Shilcock were in an 1800cc Ford Focus in the ‘Tin Tops’ (ie. saloon cars) race.
Starting alongside 37 other cars was going to be difficult but a cautious start meant they held their place in the running order.
After the mandatory pit stop for a driver change, they started to gain a place every few laps to eventually finish 17th overall and second in their class.
