WEAVERHAM climb to third place in Division One following a seven-wicket win against Tattenhall, their fifth from the past six matches.

The visitors to Wallerscote Road were sent back for a modest 127 after being put in, with Antiguan all-rounder Wilden Cornwall (4-26), Kevin Douglas (3-29) and Rob McMillan (3-21) sharing the wickets between them.

Stuart Sadler (51) was one of only two visiting batsmen to reach double figures.

Weaverham eased to 128-3 by the 33rd over, with Matthew Jamieson (44) and Cornwall (33no) making the biggest individual contributions.

They trail second-placed Timperley by 29 points with three matches left.

After three seasons in the league’s second tier, Middlewich’s relegation to Division Two was confirmed after a draw at Didsbury.

The hosts posted 226 all out after being put in, Josh Beal (61) contributing a half-century while Leandro Du Toit (4-44) and Stephen Bliss (3-53) starred in the visiting attack.

Middlewich batted resiliently to close on 173-9, Du Toit (61) impressing at the top of the order before skipper Nick Gill (28) weighed in later.

Spinner Jonny Fawcett returned figures for 8-63 from 24 overs.

Depleted Northwich, missing experienced duo Mark Walker and Sam Shepherd, slumped to a 98-run reverse at home to lowly Alvanley.

The visitors posted 176-7 after being put in, with youngster Sam Stoneley taking three wickets.

Simon Gee (65no) led the way.

In reply, the Moss Farm outfit were knocked over for just 78 by slow bowler Robin Fisher.

The former Cheshire left-armer took 5-11 from nine overs, including seven maidens.
