Middlewich survived a comeback from the hosts thanks to goals from Jack Bryning, Andy Moore and Joe O’Sullivan, as well as an own goal.

The visitors opened the scoring six minutes in when an O’Sullivan corner was fired goalwards by Mike Evans, but Bryning got a vital touch to send it past the Golborne stopper.

Middlewich doubled their lead on 31 minutes when Moore’s cross was again met by Evans on the volley, only for the keeper to push it out onto a defender and see it end up in the Golborne net.

A third followed five minutes later when a ranging O’Sullivan diagonal ball found Moore and he took one touch before driving an effort beyond the keeper into the far corner.

Golborne did pull one back moments before the break when a high Middlewich line was caught out by the run of Josh Taffe, who beat visiting stopper John O’Sullivan.

Golborne started the second half by forcing O’Sullivan into another save, while his namesake had a free kick turned around the post on 55 minutes at the other end.

But two minutes later Golborne reduced the deficit when Taffe grabbed his second, before netting his hat-trick on 65 minutes to level the score.

That came shortly after James Smith had rattled the bar at the other end for Middlewich, but when Steve Rowlands was fouled outside the box three minutes from time, Joe O’Sullivan stepped up to fire home the winner.
