WEAVERHAM became the first team to beat promotion rivals Stockport in Division Two this season when they edged a close encounter by two wickets.

The Russets dismissed their hosts for 150, Wilden Cornwall claiming the prize wicket of Josh Manning (68) while Kevin Douglas (4-25 off 14 overs) and Rob MacMillan (3-26) chipped in too.

The table-toppers were made to work for their win, but contributions from James Lewis (38), Kevin Waterhouse and MacMillan (both 23) saw them to their target.

Stockport, undefeated in 20 league games since last September, slip to third place in the table as a result.

Northwich find themselves in the bottom half following a six-wicket defeat at Upton, where they were dismissed for 136.

Gary Dixon and Liam Sundve claimed four wickets each, while batsmen James Gittings (28), Ashley Sefton (27), James Plant (24) and Mark Walker (21) all failed to build on starts.

Davenham beat Widnes by 52 runs at Butcher’s Stile to celebrate a league win for the first time since June.

They were knocked over for 146, with Dave Price (43) their leading scorer after openers Kendel Fleming (31) and Mike Sambell (24) had laid a foundation.

Left-arm spinner Daniel Hancock (6-24) did the damage after tea, helping to skittle the visitors for 94 in reply.
