REHEARSALS are in full swing as musicians from Sir John Deane’s College prepare for a night of glitz and glamour in a one-off cabaret performance.

The 22-strong college jazz band, directed by Tim Murphy, along with six student vocalists, will perform jazz and swing favourites in an evening of cabaret at the Macdonald Portal Hotel in Tarporley on Thursday, January 22 at 7pm.

The All That Jazz event will also feature special guest and former Sir John Deane’s College student Mark Hanslip.

Mark is now a renowned international tenor saxophonist and improviser.

He will be wowing the audience with a solo set, in addition to playing alongside SJD musicians.

Alison Richards, head of performing arts at the college said: “This is a huge night for our musicians, and they are all putting the hours into rehearsals to make sure it is a success.

“The Macdonald Portal Hotel is the perfect cabaret setting and, along with our extremely talented musicians, vocalist and special guest Mark, we know it will be a memorable night for everyone.”

Performances on the night will include jazz classics including Get Happy, Moondance and Come Fly with Me.

Tickets for the event are available from the college reception and cost £5.
