CUDDINGTON & SANDIWAY WI by Elizabeth Brown
Secretary, Val Miller, reported that there had been an increase in members at this month’s meeting of the Cuddington & Sandiway WI and AGM, and that the 100th Anniversary of the WI was celebrated in style with a full and varied programme of activities. Treasurer, Maureen Ashton, reported that finances were in good shape. President, Jenny Friar, had come to the end of her three year tenure, Pat Betts was elected as our new President with members from Kingsley WI supervising the process. Pat thanked Jenny for all her hard work, especially in the domain of crafts in creating the 100th anniversary banner and organising the making of bunting and sashes.
Val Miller was congratulated on winning the Dane Grove Cup with her stunning banner featuring a panel of blackwork stitched embroidery on a musical theme which was displayed.
Final arrangements were made for Christmas lunch at Vale Royal Golf Club and also for the Choir Concert in Chester Cathedral on November 19.
After tea and homemade cakes, members were introduced to the arcane technique of book folding – transforming old paperbacks into cones, animal shapes, etc. by bending the spines back and folding the individual pages. After a spray of glitter this made an unusual Christmas decoration in addition to being a good way of recycling old paperbacks.
The next open meeting will be on January 14. Ring 01606 888446 for further details.
