FORTY THREE Ramblers joined the coach to Arnside on April 12. The A group, led by Rose Chisholm, alighted first at J34 of the M6. They crossed the Lune aqueduct and then on to Hest Bank and Carnforth, through Warton and Silverdale, over Arnside Knott completing 15 miles with 1700ft of climbing.

The other groups started in Arnside. Judith Halman’s B group went north to the Fairy Steps then through Yealand Storrs to Leighton Moss nature reserve where the Marsh Harrier was spotted. The return was through Silverdale and over Arnside Knott after 12 miles with 1400ft of ascent. The C group was led by Penny Clarke. They followed the coast round to Arnside Point before climbing the Knott then continuing to Elmslack and Gait Barrows nature reserve before returning to Arnside after 9.5miles and 1100ft of climbing. David Eyes took his D group north to Park Side before turning inland to Beetham and returning via the Fairy Steps and Hazelslack. The weather was awful but the rain soon eased and most finished their walks in sunshine. Arnside’s pubs and cafes provided welcome refreshment.

The next trip will be to Ashbourne in Derbyshire on Sunday, April 26. For more details phone Barbara Ward 01565 651765
