WEAVERHAM WI by Judith Griffiths
In March, Weaverham WI celebrated its 88th birthday with a social evening and buffet supper, provided by Kanya Cafe, Northwich.
Congratulations were also due to members Mrs Edith Glover and Mrs Maureen Crouchley who have belonged to the institute for 70 and 60 years respectively.
The Speaker for April’s meeting was Samantha Helsby from Waitrose in Northwich. She outlined the history of the employee-owned John Lewis group. She gave an insight into the development and day-to-day running of the Northwich store. She answered many questions regarding the sourcing of food products and supplier relationships.
Mrs Pat Hall won the ballot to attend the Buckingham Palace garden party, hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall, in June. The Centenary Annual Meeting also takes place in June at the Royal Albert Hall and a local celebration of the centenary and of CFWI 95 years will be held at Gawsworth Hall on July 8.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 13 on ‘the assessment of need in long term care’, in the Sea Scout Hall, Weaverham at 7.15pm. Members will contribute to a ‘bring and share supper’ and visitors are always welcome.
