Great Budworth and District WI were surprised to have their handbags weighed as they arrived at their recent. The heaviest weighed in at 6kg!
Members enjoyed wine and a buffet and were entertained by local musicians Ailsa and John Booth who sang Christmas songs and played, either on the guitar or the bowed psaltery, a stringed instrument from the zither family, with a haunting, beautiful tone.
Following an enthusiastic talk last month by Jean Harding from the Associated Country Women of the World, a raffle was held in aid of her latest project funding to enable women in the Caribbean, Central and South America to overcome the weather conditions and produce their own crops.
Jean also told of the successful collection of foreign coins, which prompted one member to donate two old, unusual, and hopefully valuable, bank notes that she had been carrying around for years in her handbag - yes the same 6kg handbag!
