PRESIDENT Kath Dunn reported that the visit to the restored Victorian baths in Manchester had been a glimpse back in time with its segregated pools and impressive Art Nouveau tiling and stained glass.

A “drop in” at the Trafford Centre on the way back completed an enjoyable day. Sixteen members had also been to the local fire station where they had learnt about fire safety, had an excellent lunch and come home with a goody bag.

Members will be attending the autumn meeting, where the speaker will be Prue Leith and the Group Meeting where Chris Knight will talk about his “Olympic Dream”.

The Ramblers enjoyed a beautiful day for their monthly walk; this time around Kingsley with lunch at the Red Lion.

Ceramic poppies made by a member were available to purchase for Remembrance Day, which included a donation to the British Legion.

Looking further to the end of the year, The Choir begins rehearsals for Christmas this week and the date was set for the annual seasonal dinner.

With the final arrival of autumn, it was timely to enjoy a spectacular slide presentation by Sue Beesley of the hardy herbaceous perennials on show at her Bluebell Cottage Gardens.

She proved that, with appropriate planting, it is possible to get colour and interest in the garden year after year.

The WI meets again at 7.30pm on November 3 in the Memorial Hall, for the annual meeting, which will be followed by a quiz.
