SHOPPERS have one last chance to throw their support behind the Middlewich artisan market before a decision is made on its future.

Denise Valente and Victoria Jackson have brought the event to the town on a three-month trial basis and discussions are taking place to determine whether it becomes a permanent feature.

The trial ends this Saturday with the third and possibly final market in Wheelock Street between 10am and 4pm.

Denise, who also runs the award-winning Wilmslow artisan market, said: “Over the previous two markets, this community event has seen outstanding support from the local people and businesses.

“We've been delighted that the artisan market has fulfilled its aims.

“Increasing footfall for Middlewich, bringing the community together into the centre of town and showcasing the town’s retail offering alongside a mixture of specially chosen food, drink, art and craft stalls.”

The artisan market has been welcomed by Middlewich Town Council but negotiations are still taking place with Cheshire East Council for its future.

The focus of the discussions is on traffic arrangements.

Denise added: “This is your last chance to throw your support behind the artisan market before a decision is made.”

Saturday will see Wheelock Street transformed into a bustling market of more than 60 stalls.

Another first for the event is that John Dwyer, the Conservative candidate for police commissioner, will be on hand to talk to the public.

The election for Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner takes place on November 15.

John said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for me to get to know and talk to the people of Middlewich.

“The post of police and crime commissioner gives the public a real opportunity to influence the way in which policing is delivered in their areas and the artisan market gives me the opportunity to better understand what their needs are.”

The Love Food, Hate Waste team will be showing visitors how they can reduce food waste and save money on bills while Middlewich Dancercise and X Factor contestant Marie Clare Scott will entertain the crowds.
