A MIDDLEWICH mum is raising money for charity Asthma UK in memory of her daughter who tragically died when she was 12.

Ann-Marie Hunter will be joined by her team mates from Indigo Netball Club for a sponsored walk around the canals on Saturday, August 11.

The 32-year-old wants to honour her daughter Megan Macfie’s memory who died of an asthma attack in 2009.

Megan was playing with her friends when she collapsed in Sutton Lane with breathing difficulties.

Ann-Marie said: “Losing a child is one of most difficult situations to try and come to terms with.

“I don't think there are any words to describe the heartache that you have to deal with when it happens.

“You learn to live with the sadness and pain everyday.

“Having my other children around helped take my mind off it a lot and all my family and friends were very supportive and were on hand morning, noon and night.”

The seven-mile walk will start in Coronation Avenue, where Megan grew up, and proceed to the Town Wharf for a loop around the canals.

Some of Megan’s friends from Middlewich High School are also hoping to join in.

The walk will then finish at The Kinderton pub where Megan’s wake was held.

Seventy per cent of funds raised will go to Asthma UK to help prevent other people going through the same heartache and 30 per cent will go towards the netball club.

Ann-Marie added: “Doing the walk in Megan's memory will hopefully help awareness for asthma sufferers.

“Megan's asthma wasn't extreme, she had bad bouts at times but I've known people who had it a lot worse but are ok.

“I think every parent needs to be a lot more vigilant as it never occurred to me that this could happen to Megan.

“I would hate anybody to have to go through what I go through everyday.”
