A DRAINAGE team has pledged to improve the state of St Michael’s Way underpass.
The subway has been covered with ‘rusty water’ due to a leak for about six weeks which has caused people to avoid it and cross the busy road instead.
An 80-year-old who lives nearby but did not wish to be named said: “People are taking their lives into their hands.
“Nobody seems to be interested in doing anything about it.
“It’s covered the entire underpass - there’s not a dry bit in there.
“You can’t walk through without being splashed and if it gets on your clothes it ruins them.”
Cheshire East Council is responsible for the subway’s maintenance.
A spokesman said: “We are aware of this issue and have got the situation in hand. A drainage dig up team will be attending the site soon to investigate and remedy the problem.”
