Relief as Wheelock Street set to reopen after gasworks project

A NIGHTMARE month will end for Middlewich traders on Monday when Wheelock Street will reopen.

National Grid has been replacing old metal gas mains with modern plastic ones since January 16 which closed the high street to traffic.

Shopkeepers will be breathing a sigh of relief as many have lost thousands of pounds due to a plummet in footfall.

But engineers will remain on site for around a fortnight longer meaning no parking will be available in Wheelock Street for most of February.
