EXERCISE classes have been set up in Middlewich area to help older people with mobility problems build strength.
Cheshire East Council’s weekly Be Steady, Be Safe classes will also help those who have poor balance and have fear of falling.
Clr Janet Clowes, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “As we get older, we may become less inclined to exercise and to keep ourselves strong and fit.
“Poor strength and balance are key risk factors for falling and injuries in older people and by improving this aspect of an individual’s fitness, we can reduce the risk of them being admitted to hospital.
“With gentle and continuous exercise the risk of having a fall reduces massively, so we would encourage as many people as possible to attend a class near to them.”
The class is held at Willowmere in East Road on Fridays between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Classes cost £2 per person and transport is available if required. For further information please contact 01270 685794 or BeSteadyBeSafe@cheshireeast.gov.uk
