A PROPERTY boss has hit back after an outcry over plans to build 68 homes on a greenfield site in Middlewich.

Muller Property Group has resubmitted its controversial plans to build two, three and four-bedroom homes in The Green.

Residents and campaigners say the proposal, which was previously refused by Cheshire East Council in January, will damage the countryside and cause traffic chaos on a narrow road.

It has also prompted more than 25 new letters of objection.

But managing director Colin Muller says that Middlewich is identified as one of the council’s ‘key service centres’ to attract more housing, funding and infrastructure.

He also said that the plans will help the town meet its demand for housing as Middlewich’s two-year housing supply is ‘chronically’ below the borough average of 3.65 years.

The Government target is five years.

Mr Muller said: “Our vision is to deliver a high quality housing development which will provide a range of much needed housing options for local people.

“It is vitally important for the council to meet its five year housing supply and this family housing scheme will help them to meet this requirement.”

The scheme includes 19 affordable homes on a five acre site.

Mr Muller also pointed out that the development would be in a suitable location as it is surrounded on three sides by existing housing and would be ‘within walking distance of amenities, schools and transportation links’.

Cheshire East Council’s decision is expected on the plans on September 28.

Muller Property Group has also appealed against the authority’s original decision and a public inquiry is scheduled for October 4 and 5.
