MIDDLEWICH chiefs are angry that the incinerator appeal is being held 10 miles away from the town.

The public inquiry for Covanta’s plans for a waste plant in Midpoint 18 business park will begin in the Municipal Buildings in Crewe on March 8.

At the recent town council meeting, Clr Keith Bagnall questioned why the appeal is being held at a venue which can seat around 40 people when Middlewich Civic Hall has space for about 200.

He said: “I have to say that it is outrageous but we will represent Middlewich as best we can.”

It is understood there will be a videolink at Crewe library for people to watch the proceedings.

After the inquiry, the evidence is set to be handed to Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, on July 25 for a final decision.
