GREEN-FINGERED youngsters have been helping in a cancer sufferer’s quest to thank the charity that provides a lifeline for him.
Eighteen Beavers from the 1st Cuddington and Sandiway Scout Group are currently nurturing seeds at home.
In six weeks, Middlewich resident Alec Hirst will put the flowers into hanging baskets to sell in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Alec suffers from follicular cancer and he and his family have been supported by Macmillan nurses every step of the way.
The project came about as Alec would often chat to Beaver leader Becky Womersley at Rowlands Pharmacy in Wheelock Street where she works.
Alec, who won two gold awards at Middlewich in Bloom, said: “She suggested it as a little project for them to get their badges.
“It’s been brilliant - they were very enthusiastic and went home with trays to put on their windowsills.”
If you would like to offer an old hanging basket or container for Alec, you can drop them off at Booseys garden centre or call him on 738877.
