SLIPS, trips and falls caused 229 serious injuries to workers in Middlewich and other areas of Cheshire East last year, it has been revealed.
New figures have been released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as part of a campaign called Shattered Lives.
The HSE estimates that workplace accidents cost taxpayers £800million a year and can ruin lives.
Campaigners are specifically targeting industries like health and social care, education, food manufacturing, building maintenance and construction where risk is high.
One of the biggest issues HSE is tackling is the importance of using ladders correctly to reduce the risk of falling from height.
Mike Cross, head of operations for HSE North West, said: “Slips, trips and falls might sound funny but they shatter the lives of thousands of British workers ever year.
“Making improvements doesn’t need to cost the earth and we are encouraging people to visit the Shattered Lives website, where they will be able to get simple and cost-effective solutions to help manage slip, trip and fall hazards in their workplace.”
