A RESEARCHER is seeking help from the public to compile an extensive history of his mother’s family.
Alan Dearden, 55, of Angus Grove, is keen to trace his maternal line following the death of his mother, Mary Dearden (nee Clarke) who passed away last year.
By working backwards from present day, Mr Dearden has managed to find family members as far back as 1750 from records dating back to 1613.
But he added: “To be honest copies prior to 1750 are pretty hard to read and I think I am going to struggle to get any further meaningful information.”
“Still 250 years or so is better than I anticipated when I started the journey.”
With very little research carried out on the branches of the Clarke family, Mr Dearden is keen to put these pieces together, starting with his earliest ancestors who he believes to be shoemakers.
He also believes there were bricklayers in the family following the large scale development of the salt industry.
The location of these ancestors most commonly seems to be Newton, Kinderton and Sutton. Several generations appear traceable to Pepper Street, where Thomas Clarke, visible in the records of the Middlewich cemetery is described as landlord of the ‘Lord Hood’ public house.
