Driver says thanks to Middlewich residents for help in time of need

A WOMAN whose car spun out of control in a terrifying crash has praised Middlewich residents for coming to her rescue.

Becca Shirley, 24, was driving through the town on her way back from work, last Sunday night, when her car skidded due to flooding and came off the road at the bottom of Spittle Hill.

She said: “My car wound up going through a hedge and coming to stop at a ninety degree angle on its passenger side.

“I didnt have time to think of anything, it happened so fast. I was coming out of Middlewich up the hill and there was a thunderstorm and it started raining very suddenly and hard.

“The road was black and there was not much light so I did not see the water until I hit it “I had shut my eyes when the car hit the curb and only heard and felt it go. My mind was blank.”

Despite suffering from whiplash and pulling the muscles in her back and the left side of her body, Becca managed to force the driver door open.

She stumbled out into the pouring rain as she was worried the car would roll over.

But when Becca, who works as a carer for disabled children, waved people down for help, she was ignored for several minutes.

Becca, from Winsford, added: “I was in shock so I didnt really notice the rain. I was more worried as I didnt know what to do.

“I dont know how long it was before someone came, I had sat on the kerb then a man came over followed by another and then a lady called Sam, from Middlewich, who was going the other way stopped.

“She rang the ambulance and police and stayed with me until the end.

“My message to the people would be thankyou for stopping and coming to help me. It proves there are good people in the world but I am upset about the people who drove past a women in obvious distress at the side of the road.

“I am alright now, just suffering back pain and a sore neck, and counting myself very lucky I got out of the car.

“If I hadn't I doubt I would have been seen for sometime and I was very lucky that my car did not roll over or slide down the bank.”
