A MUM-OF-TWO fighting cancer for the third time will never forget the generosity of the people of Warrington after more than £40,000 was raised to fund alternative treatment.

The town has united to help 26-year-old Kirsty Mcdonald, from Orford, as she faces the fight of her life to beat cancer.

In July, the Warrington Guardian urged readers to dig deep to help provide financial relief for Kirsty and her two daughters Eva and Ella after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer for the third time in 18 months.

Within two months, the newspaper’s readers along with Kirsty’s loved ones have helped to smash the £40,000 fundraising target.

All money raised will provide financial relief to support the mum-of-two as well as fund any further treatment outside of the NHS.

Kirsty said: “I’m absolutely overwhelmed with people’s generosity. I can’t thank you all enough.

“Some people say Warrington isn’t a good town but I think completely different.

“I’m so proud to say I’m Warrington born and bred and that the whole town has backed me through the hardest time in my life.

“I honestly can’t thank every single person enough.”

On Sunday Kirsty flew to Germany for more gentle forms of therapies to try to help her immune system to recover.

Last week, Kirsty was also finally able to take a step in the right direction.

She said: “I had a phone call off Macmillan at Clatterbridge to tell let me know that my scan was back.

"Although I haven’t had the official results given from a consultant she has told me that I have responded amazingly to treatment and that the cancer in the lymphatic system is no longer visible on the scan.

“Although this still means I’m not cancer free what an amazing step in the right direction.

“Never accept that your life is controlled by one person.

“Your body mind and natural remedies are so powerful.

“Thank you so much for allowing me to access alternative therapy.

"My happy ever after doesn’t seem so far away now.”
