A TOWN councillor is delighted that Middlewich is set to benefit from more CCTV coverage.

Following a “Middlewich Matters” residents’ meeting, which focussed on anti-social behaviour in Middlewich, Cllr Carol Bulman spearheaded an action plan to tackle issues around the trouble-spots of Southway and Tesco car parks.

The first new camera will be situated at the top end of Southway covering the two entrances to the car park, as well as the back entrance to Fountain Fields play park. This should be in position and operational within a week or so.

A second camera, of a portable design, will be launched soon after, and will be used to cover other areas of the carpark and Fountain Fields.

The timing of this will be dependent on the council gaining access to the site which is currently closed off because of Tesco being shut.

Cllr Bulman said, “Fountain Fields was never within the remit of this CCTV plan, but with the wonderful renovation work now in place, of course we will do all we can to protect it.

"However, it deserves a more dedicated CCTV camera, and we will be pressing for that.”
