MIDDLEWICH Town Football Club has received another life saving defibrillator from SADS UK.

The club had already received a defibrillator for the games at home but thanks to donations and the work of a charity campaigner, they now have one they can take to away games as well.

Middlewich resident, Christopher Prime, gave Linda Boden, of SADS UK, the idea of raising money for another defibrillator for the football team.

Linda said: “He was telling me how some of the places the teams visit are in the middle of nowhere and do not have access to the equipment.

“I went to watch them train and after seeing the number of kids playing with all the parents and grand parents watching I thought it would be a fantastic idea.”

The football club said that it was delighted with the idea and Linda is grateful for their ongoing support.

She said: “I wrote a letter to the council making the suggestion and they got back to me very quickly saying that they thought it was a fantastic idea.

“Steve Morris, the owner of the club, could not do enough for us. He set up my visits to the club and arranged the picture for us, everything I’ve needed for this he has been there.”

SADS UK raises awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), which is a type of cardiac arrest, and funds research and medical equipment such as defibrillators.

The money for the defibrillators comes mostly in the form of public donations.

Linda said: “Some of the money came from an anonymous donor but generally the money we raise comes from collection boxes and charity events in the town.

“The football club were so thankful to us for the new equipment but they really have the people of Middlewich to be thankful for.

“The most recent collection box in the Vaults pub raised £102 for our next defibrillator which is absolutely fantastic.”

The charity very close to Linda after her son died of SADS in 2006 aged just 26.

She said: “The support we receive is amazing, after 12 years people are still donating to the collection boxes for us. I would also like to thank The Guardian for its ongoing support as well.”
