A MIDDLEWICH artist is looking to get the community involved with the new sculpture coming to Fountain Fields as part of the renovations.

Deborah Moses, 51, is a known artist in Cheshire after her work on a project in Tatton Park three years ago and her latest art piece will look to document what matters to the people of Middlewich.

She said: “The town council approached me to design the new sculpture because of my previous work in Tatton.

“Because Middlewich is my home town I wanted to design something the community can be a part of and not just walk past. I wanted this sculpture to be about Middlewich.

“The initial idea was to have a water feature in the middle of the park but they can be expensive to install and maintain.

“So I’ve designed the sculpture to look like a river bed with pebbles painted by members of the community in the wooden monoliths supplied from the Lock Gates.

“Most of my work revolves glass and I can make it look very textured like water and the idea is that people can submit photos and poems to be encased in glass and placed in the sculpture.

Deborah wants the community to be able to express what matters to them in Middlewich and what parts of the town they love in order to make the sculpture represent the town.

The Tesco Superstore in Middlewich has been hosting pebble painting sessions for anyone to join and so far the community response has exceeded expectations.

Deborah said: “We had a pebble painting session on Tuesday, 24, July and I was only meant to be there until about 12pm but I did not end up leaving until 2pm when we ran out of pebbles.

“There are already a lot of people enquiring about the next session which will be on August, 10, again at the Tesco superstore in Middlewich.

“People are welcome to paint pebbles at home and submit them to Tesco before August, 28.

“At these sessions I’ve been speaking to local children and their parents and grandparents and so far everyone has been really positive about this project and we’re going to have a big open day to celebrate when the sculpture will be unveiled.

The deadline for submitting photographs or poems is August, 5 and for more information on the project and how to get involved, contact Deborah on mail@thesilverzebra.co.uk.
