Police advice on keeping your home secure includes closing and locking windows and doors, even when you are at home or in the garden, and never leaving keys out on display.

All valuables should be kept out of sight, including large amounts of cash.

Certified locks should be used on windows and doors, and mortise locks are advisable.

Police also say to fit a burglar alarm, and make sure it is installed properly and works. Keep your garage and garden shed locked with tools secure and out of sight.
