A RESIDENT has voiced his frustration as a safety hazard has not been cleared after at least two years of enquiries into the matter.

Alan Langley, 64, from Middlewich, has been trying to find out who is responsible for an overgrown hedge which is obstructing a no entry sign.

He believes the obstruction is the main cause of a problem previously reported by The Guardian whereby drivers drive the wrong way around the Newton Bank Gyratory.

Alan said: “The problem is Dane Housing vehicles exit their flats in Nantwich Road, Middlewich, from the service road in Newton Heath and go the wrong way out of Newton Heath entering the Newton Bank gyratory the wrong way towards St Michael’s Way.”

Alan has contacted Cheshire East Council about the issue and it has said that it is not its responsibility.

With cars going the wrong way around the busy road, Alan fears a head on collision is an inevitability.

Alan said: “I went to Cheshire East Council to complain about the issue and I was told that there were no flats in Nantwich Road and that they were in fact in St Ann’s Road.

“They also told me that the overgrown hedge was not their jurisdiction and pointed me in the direction of Dane Housing.

“I went to Congleton to speak to the manager and she assured me the hedges would be cut back and that was about two years ago now and still nothing has been done."

“The problem could be easily solved. The shrubbery covering and obscuring the turn left exit sign in the middle of the bush needs to be cut down.”

Catherine Biggs, head of housing at Plus Dane, said: “We appreciate that this issue has the potential to cause confusion for road users and have flagged to the local authority that the sign needs resecuring to the top of the post. Our grounds team will be cutting back the hedges in question within the next few days.”
