A PASSENGER train on the Middlewich line gave a glimpse at what the future could be like should the station be reopened sometime down the line.

A ‘Nosey Peaker’ train passed through Middlewich Station and marked one of the rare occasions were a passenger train has used the train line without being diverted beforehand.

The campaign to reopen Middlewich Train Station has been a longstanding one and Stephen Dent, chairman of the Mid Cheshire Rail Link (MCRL) campaign, hopes this can show the value in reopening the station.

Stephen said: “If anything this shows that the line is fit for use, the signals clearly work and charter and steam trains going through is a fairly regular occurrence.”

Despite this Stephen does understand why any major developments regarding reopening the station are still far down the pipeline.

He said: “One of the main problems is the speed limit on that line is too low.

“The station needs to be maintained better in order for the speed limit to be raised.

“It’s fine for these charter trains and steam engines but it really is not ideal for people trying to get to work.”
