VOLUNTEERS have been working next to the towpath just off Wych-House Lane.
The work included the installation of both a new marker bench at the top of the locks and a new noticeboard at the bottom of the lock.
Kerry Kirwan, Middlewich Heritage Society, said: “Thank you to Ashleigh at Canal and Rivers Trust and all the volunteers who have given their time over the last two days.
“Middlewich Town Council has been a partner of the Saltscape Project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund.
“We have had a brilliant time working with the public on consultations, stone carving, willow weaving, boat making etc and we are the last partner to finish our projects.
“The finished stone carving can be seen on the Saline Field and we have just installed our second art work from Stephen Charnock of Scartworks, so as well as the welcome to Middlewich sign at the big lock we now have a sculptural bench placed on the top lock of the three locks, Trent and Mersey Canal.
“It's a brilliant piece so go take a look. We have also installed a new interpretation panel and noticeboard between the bottom and middle lock and given the area a general tidy up.
“The next works is at Harbutt's Field starting next week doing pathways, replacing the gates and interpretation panels so watch this space.”
