CHESHIRE East Council have announced that work to improve the pedestrian crossing facilities at Newton Bank gyratory is set to start.

The plan is to improve pedestrian and road safety by improvements to the crossing facility, resurfacing and new road markings.

The works will be carried out at Newton Bank, on the A530 Nantwich Road, from Tuesday 29 May to Sunday, June 3 and also June 9 to 10.

A 24-hour closure will be required during these dates between the junction of Clive Green Lane and St Ann’s Road.

Councillor Don Stockton, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for environment, said: “Newton Bank’s one-way system is a busy route on the A530 connecting key roads in Middlewich, so with work of this nature there will be some disruption in the area.

“However, the work will enhance the route for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, improving safety and the overall road condition.

“Any disruption will be kept to a minimum and access to local businesses and properties will be maintained during the work. We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding.”

The council intends to minimise disruption as much as possible with the work taking place during the May half-term week and the following weekend.

The road closure will be in place 24 hours a day during the period, with work taking place between 8am and 6pm.

This will enable highways teams to carry out carriageway resurfacing and lining safely, while access to properties and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The road closures are necessary to protect the safety of members of the public and highways workers. Signed diversions will be in place and diversion routes can be found online at roadworks.org/?tmi=3749132
